As famous for its lively multi-cultural audience as its cutting edge programming, this great little theatre was built in 1884 on the site of a wheelwright's shop, refurbished by the great architect Sir Frank Matcham in 1902 and revolutionised by Joan Littlewood and Gerry Raffles in the 1950's a revolution that continues in spirit, joyful and unabashed, to this day.
